John Smith started in the firewood equipment manufacturing business in 1981 with East Hill Equipment Corporation.
East Hill Equipment was a manufacturer of Brute processors, splitters, and conveyors. John sold the business in 1991 and then decided to reenter the market in 1996 by starting Built-Rite Mfg.

Learning from the previous ten years of experience at East Hill Equipment John set about to build faster, more reliable, and easier to operate firewood processor than was currently on the market. In 2000 John’s son Jeremy, after graduating from college in Northern Vermont, joined the business full time. In the past ten years John and Jeremy have worked hard to make Built-Rite’s better than ever.
